Generally, Sentry’s target companies have experienced some level of success before Sentry’s involvement. Usually, though, that success has occurred somewhat fortuitously and not as the result of the disciplined execution of a comprehensive business plan.
In addition, at the time of Sentry’s investment, the company typically does not have a fully developed management team or may have some management team members who do not possess the desired skill sets. And more often than not, the company has not laid the groundwork for significant growth by instituting a fully integrated software system and a complete set of operating policies and procedures; in other words, the company has not yet institutionalized to accommodate significant growth.
Recognizing that the preceding is common to most of Sentry’s target companies, Sentry has developed a cradle-to-grave approach to take the company from its present stage of fortuitous success to a new level of goal driven success. Although Sentry’s approach is very collaborative with the portfolio company’s management team, it often results in cultural change at all levels of the company – beginning, of course, with executive management.
