Leonard A. Whippen (age 50): Mr. Whippen, M.B.A, is Vice President, Private Equity Division, of Sentry, in which position he analyzes new portfolio company opportunities, monitors the monthly performance of existing companies, and participates in the strategic planning and budgeting processes for each company. Mr. Whippen was on assignment at The Music School (“TMS”) (one of Sentry’s portfolio companies) during most of 2007, during which his focus was building TMS’s accounting department and spearheading the company’s quality improvement initiative. He was also involved with the strategic and tactical direction of the company.
Prior to his tenure at Sentry, Mr. Whippen was the Corporate Controller for Tandem Labs, formerly NWT Inc., a forensic drug testing lab and a contract research organization (CRO).
Prior to his position as Corporate Controller, he served as the NWT Quality Assurance Officer, responsible for assuring forensic level quality for various contracts including those with the Department of Defense (DOD), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a division of the U.S. Division of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Mr. Whippen has also held various leadership and management roles in quality control, strategic planning, training, information systems, and human resources.
Mr. Whippen began his career with ARUP Inc., a clinical laboratory associated with the University of Utah Medical Center.
Mr. Whippen is a graduate of the University of Utah College of Pharmacy with a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. He obtained an MBA from Westminster College, with emphases in Information Technology, Total Quality Management, and Accounting.
