R. Kirk Heaton (age 53): Mr. Heaton, J.D., is Executive Vice President, General Counsel of Sentry. His responsibilities include leading the Structured Financing Division, originating and documenting Sentry’s financing and investment transactions, and managing Sentry’s various international business interests and investments. Mr. Heaton is also a member of Sentry’s Investment Committee and primarily responsible for Sentry’s relationship with the Export-Import Bank of the United States.
Prior to joining Sentry, Mr. Heaton was Chief Operating Officer of International Armoring Corporation, a manufacturer of armored vehicles. For the preceding six years, he served as Division Legal Counsel and Director of Contracts for FMC-Jetway Systems, the world leader in the manufacture and sale of airline passenger boarding bridges. Mr. Heaton was responsible for documenting, implementing, and managing various international joint ventures for the manufacture and supply of passenger boarding bridges and associated equipment.
Part of his responsibilities included arranging financing and manufacturing of equipment overseas. Mr. Heaton was also a partner with the Salt Lake City law firm of Callister, Nebeker & McCullough, where he concentrated on corporate business, banking, and real estate law. He began his private law practice with the international law firm of Bryan, Cave, McPheeters & McRoberts in St. Louis, Missouri working on international business matters.
Mr. Heaton graduated cum laude from Weber University with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish and obtained a law degree from the University of Utah in 1982, where he was a member of the Utah Law Review and was elected to the Utah Chapter of the Order of the Coif. Mr. Heaton is fluent in Spanish.
